If you’re looking for the latest news regarding vinyl records, look no further than VMP. The company recently announced its own pressing plant. It will be 14,000 square feet in size and based in Denver, Colorado. The facility is expected to be operational by the end of the year. For now, we’ll be happy to report that delays to the release of physical products have helped some artists bounce back to the Billboard 200 when the physical products ship.
Vinyl Me, Please
Founded during the heyday of the vinyl boom, Vinyl Me, Please was originally designed to be a subscription-based record club. Initially, the company operated out of its co-founder Matt Fiedler’s Boulder apartment and a house in Louisville’s Cole Creek neighborhood. Since moving to Denver in 2018, Vinyl Me, Please has grown to a team of 27 employees, with half of them based in Denver and the rest spread across the U.S.
Its success is a testament to the demand for vinyl. Last year, the subscription service sold over seven hundred thousand records. It is currently on track to sell a million records this year. Membership costs between $33 and $43 per month, or $500 a year. Subscribers can receive exclusive vinyl pressings, box set re-releases, podcasts, and colored vinyl. The company has also expanded beyond classical music, breaking deals with jazz labels, and has recently entered country and hip-hop.
Pressing plant
Despite the lack of new music to promote, the pressing plant at Rainbo Records is still one of the largest in the country. The record label plans to shut down the pressing plant in 2020. While the backlog is currently undetermined, there are some indications that it might be the worst on record in history. In addition, a large portion of the current backlog is attributable to a shortage of pressing machines.
With increasing consumer demand, record companies are looking for ways to boost production. VMP is attempting to do so by opening an audiophile-grade pressing plant in Denver. The new plant is expected to open by the end of this year. While the company is hesitant to announce a specific date, they say it will hold tours and special events for locals. After the news is out, VMP will be able to expand its product line.

If you’re a Deadhead, you’ll appreciate the Podcast series on VMP News, a new series that’s coming to the streaming service on October 16. These episodes focus on the history of the band, its music, and the artists that were part of the group.
